Everyday Choices Can Lead to Financial Security and Freedom

Growing up my mother wasn’t much for complaining. About thirty seconds in we got the look that said she was done listening to us complain and wondering what we were going to do about it.  She never said it was a rule, but if we kept going the look that asked us the question became a verbal question. It shaped how I approached life, and money.

Power of Choice

Each of us has a choice every single day to decide to do something different with and in our lives. It can be choosing to mix up our wardrobe, eat something different for breakfast, take a new route to familiar places, or make different choices about our finances.

The first few things may feel easier, but the last one, our finances, impacts everything else. Yet, it’s the thing most of us don’t want to think about. Until we’re staring at a financial cliff or insecurity.

So what can you do so you’ve got a parachute locked on when you are running through life making those everyday choices and the unexpected happens?

Be Ready

Well, to that I’d say. Be ready. And to be ready, you must be prepared. Do you have emergency savings? Short term savings? A method to ensure you and your family are okay if something happens to you or the main breadwinner in your home?

I recently did a financial needs analysis and despite what I know, there was something even our financial advisor hadn’t shared with us and I have to admit I was a little upset that neither of us were aware of some options we had to save money, prepare for later years, and protect our money.

It took this year’s market instability to shake me to take action to put our money in places with less risk but it shouldn’t have had to take that. I wish someone would’ve told me what I now know, about four or five years ago. However, we live and we learn, right.

How it Begins

It all begins with those everyday choices we make. Choices to do things that are in alignment with your dreams, goals, and that vision you have for your future. What’s it look like for you and what do you need financially to make it a reality?

Then day by day, make the choices, take the actions you need to get there.
