Balancing Investments & Savings: How T & D Saved for Their Dream Wedding

Client Case Study (T&D) Real Estate Investments and Savings

How it Started

I met T and D while exploring a possible real estate investment deal. A good part of their money was tied up in real estate but they also needed to start saving for their wedding. They’d finally set a date and had procrastinated on saving. They had an intimate wedding planned near Savannah and though it was going to be smaller and simple, they still had to make a budget to pay for everything.

As adults they were paying for everything themselves, while also raising kids, and working in their short-term rental real estate business. They were at a point of needing to balance their investments and savings.

Balancing Investments and Savings to Have Their Dream Wedding

The Dream and Action

They had a straightforward request to stay accountable to their wedding savings goal and budget. While I didn’t help them set the budget, I did help them save so they had enough for the wedding they planned.

Over a week we developed their savings plan with the expectation they would manage the savings through a specific account for the wedding. Once a week I checked in with T to see how they were doing and to occasionally talk her down from feeling overwhelmed if everything that seemed to come up to put their plans at risk. Planning a wedding is stressful enough without being a mom and entrepreneur.

A Shift in Their Money Mojo and Mindset

We did a lot of work on money mindset for them as a couple. They had been accustomed to making and spending or making and putting earnings into real estate, without having money they could easily access. With them having Spender and Star money mojo types, saving money didn’t come naturally, but they managed to do it.

First we worked on the idea that it was okay to have money saved and an emergency fund. Selling a home in case of emergency was risky and not guaranteed.

How It’s Going

Adjusting Real Estate Investments and Savings Ratio

They even decided to put money into a high yield savings account as an alternative to another real estate purchase and now have money they can access when needed.

T and D had their beautiful destination wedding and developed a new mindset around saving money as a compliment to their real estate investment.
